RGB Channels

A look at the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) color values of an image, and how they combine to represent a full range of colors. Color adjusting tools like Curves are based on RGB. The equivalent values in HSB(Hue, Saturation, Brightness) are included for comparison.

An image's R channel is just the R values of each pixel, represented in monochrome with a color range of red to black. White, yellow and magenta pixels will be red, while green, cyan, or blue pixels are black. (Looks similar to a greyscale image tinted red, but the color values are calculated differently.)

Gamma refers to all 3 RGB channels combined. Certain blend modes take the values of each channel separately, or all at once. For example, Darken will take color values from the separate channels, resulting in areas tinted red, green or blue. Darker Color instead takes from all 3 combined, so there will be no color tint.
